Scary Drop Drop Tower Ride Thrill Rides
A drop tower is the most direct thrill ride ever built: riders go up, wait, then fall. Passengers sit in a ring of seats facing outwards around a vertical steel tower, are carried to the top with the park spread out below them, and are held there for a few seconds before the release. What follows is a free fall down the tower, slowed by a controlled braking system in the final section of the descent.
The whole cycle lasts about a minute, yet it is the part of the park visitors talk about on the way home. The tower is also what they see first: at full height it stands above every other attraction on the site, which makes a drop tower ride a landmark for the venue as much as an attraction in itself.
Scary Drop: A Drop Tower Ride Built in Italy
Scary Drop carries 20 passengers per cycle on a single ring-shaped vehicle that climbs a tower 60 m high (197 ft). Riders are secured by over-the-shoulder restraints with double safety locks, and the minimum rider height is 130 cm (51 in). The ride occupies a footprint of 14 x 22 m (46 x 72 ft), so the ground it takes is modest compared to the presence it gives the skyline. It can be supplied on trailer for travelling shows, as a self-standing structure, or on foundation for permanent parks.
Every unit is manufactured in compliance with the regulations of the destination country and runs on redundant control systems, with fail-safe brakes that stop the vehicle if power is lost. Our planning office customizes theming, colours and lighting along the whole tower, which at night becomes the brightest element of the park. Being the tallest structure on site, the Scary Drop is usually placed where it can be seen from outside the gates, working as a drop tower ride and as an advertisement for the venue at the same time.
